There is still hope. After Fox cancelled "The Following" making season 3 the final chapter in the Kevin Bacon-led series, season 4 was being shopped around networks including online streaming sites. After Hulu said no to taking on the drama series, it seems that Netflix as the show's new home is a better and more plausible alternative.
The final episode for "The Following" season 3 aired less than a month ago and fans are still not over the fact that "The Reckoning" will be the last of FBI Agent Ryan Hardy. Fox cancelled "The Following" as it neared the end of season 3. According to TVLine, the cancellation could be attributed to the constant fall in ratings as the season progressed.
"'The Following' opened strong in January 2013, drawing north of 10 million viewers and then averaging 8 mil (with a 2.6 demo rating) across its freshman run," read the report.
"For season 2, it averaged 5.2 mi and a 1.8 (yet scored an early pick-up). Season 3 opened with 4.8 mil/1.6, improving on 'Sleepy Hollow's' finale in the time slot, but at last tally the serial killer drama mustered barely 3 mil and a 1.1, the lowest-rated non-CW program on Monday night."
However, after the cancellation, the people behind "The Following" kept their hopes up and shopped for the renewal of season 4.
Pitched to Hulu that recently rescued another Fox show "The Mindy Project," the American online company bowed out of "The Following" season 4 much to the dismay of fans. While this isn't the last option for "The Following" season 4, Netflix offers a glimmer of hope for renewal.
To date, there has been no official feedback from the home of the political drama "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black," nor from the reps of "The Following" for the renewal of season 4. However, fans remain hopeful that another good samaritan takes in "The Following" for the continuation of the story in season 4.
