Nina Dobrev has refused The CW's offer for her to return to "The Vampire Diaries."
Movie News Guide reported that the 26-year-old actress has declined the chance to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert in The CW show, "TVD." Dobrev claimed to have left the show because she wanted to focus on her movie career and not because of her ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder.
It was previously reported that Nikki Reed was worried that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev may rekindle their romance if the actress returns to "The Vampire Diaries." The cast of the show and even Somerhalder has teased that Dobrev's character may be alive.
"She's still there, dude," Somerhalder said. "She's in a casket; she's having a nap." Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, also added that characters always die and come back in "TVD."
CW president Mark Pedowitz admitted that they would have wanted Nina Dobrev to stay with them for "The Vampire Diaries." "She is welcome back any time she wants to come back," he said at a Television Critics Association panel.
According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Nina Dobrev refused to work with Ian Somerhalder again on the show. The CW has kept Elena Gilbert's role open in case she wants to come back to the series.
The publication speculated that Dobrev "likely took the tease as a slap in the face" since it assumes that the actress will not land any role apart from "TVD."
