The highly-anticipated "Injustice 2" game could possibly feature new characters.

Franchise Herald reported that the sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us" will introduce key DC characters such as Captain Atom, Vixen and Black Canary. Red Hood and Amazo are also said to be included in the game's character roster.

Another publication, Den of Geek, has created a list of the characters they want to see in the upcoming "Injustice 2" game. Supergirl, Static, Poison Ivy, The Shade, Captain Cold, Bleez, Darkseid, Booster Gold and Evil Batman are some of the heroes and villains that could be featured in the sequel.

It was previously reported that the "Injustice 2" game could be a DC vs. Marvel crossover. Last year, the official Facebook page of DC Comics Mexico posted a fan-made image which hinted that the game may be a DC vs. Marvel crossover fighting game.

The image has since been removed. However, the crossover would make sense since Capcom's license to create Marvel games has expired and NetherRealms Studios could pick it up.

However, there is still no official statement from NetherRealms about the "Injustice 2" game characters. Furthermore, its release date is still unconfirmed as well.

According to Attack of the Fanboy, the "Injustice 2" game would be best released with "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" next year. Since the film has no tie-in game yet, the release of the game would "make absolute sense" if it would coincide with the movie's premiere.

"This would put it out either right before or right after in a slot that NetherRealm loves, with 'Mortal Kombat 9,' 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' and 'Mortal Kombat X' all releasing in the same time period," the publication wrote.

NetherRealms boss Ed Boon seemed to have already hinted on the "Injustice 2" game's release date when he replied to a tweet by the AIAS. He was not able to attend some events this year due to the promotion of "Mortal Kombat X."

"@Official_AIAS @noobde :( Hope you can make it next year! EB: Absolutely! ......unless we ship a game in April 2016 ;)" Boon tweeted.
