The latest UFO sighting video caught on the skies over Santiago, Chile caused panic among many. Skeptics attempt to explain what caused it.
The almost five-minute long video, titled "Fantastic UFO sighting in Santiago," was posted on YouTube last month, according to The Daily Mirror.
Reportedly, it featured unidentified aircraft with bright lights flying near the city.
Some were convinced of the UFO sighting video's authenticity especially when another one surfaced, which apparently caught UFO activity in the same location at around the same time the year before.
"It shows a group of identical objects flying in a similar manner near a mountain outside the city," The Express reported.
Scott Waring of UFO Sightings Daily explained the videos caught an annual event "when fleets of UFOs leave the underground base in the mountains along Santiago."
But skeptics offered a more logical explanation to the extraterrestrial mystery.
Some weren't convinced they're UFOs but rather, drones or planes queuing up for landing at the nearby airport.
One commenter offered a more detailed explanation.
"Those are T-35 planes, Chilean Air Force," he wrote. He also had an explanation as to why the alleged UFOs are seen over Santiago, Chile annually.
"Every year when new pilots graduate the AGA (Chilean Air Force) Academy, they fly in formation as part of the ceremony."
Another user who commented on the 2014 UFO sighting video posted on the UFOVNI YouTube channel said the lights are from a squad of Hawk jets of the Chilean Air Force.
"As usual in December, they make [a] triangular formation resembling a large Christmas tree lights and even use colored lights to emulate it."
But the city isn't the only one to report extraterrestrial encounters.
170 miles south of Santiago, Chile, the town of San Clemente has also had its own share of UFO sightings over the last 20 years, according to The Daily Mirror.
