Lately, many people have been battling cold and flu. It actually seems like everyone has at least had it once or has it reoccurring. Well, there are medications that you can take to help you deal with the cold and flu. However, they can sometimes prove not to be effective. The good news is that several natural ways can help you stay healthy during the cold and flu season. Want to know more? Read on.

1. Wash your hands

This is a no-brainer. One of the best ways to stay healthy during the cold and flu season is by washing your hands regularly. Our hands trap a lot of germs and can be a breeding ground for bacteria. As a result, you may end up contracting the flu or cold if you do not wash them. Therefore, ensure that you wash your hands regularly with clean water and soap. If you do not have access to clean water and soap at any point, you can use an alcohol-based sanitizer as it also helps to kill the germs.

2. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes

Many of us find ourselves touching our mouth, nose, and eyes throughout the day. This, however, is not healthy as it is one way to transfer germs from the hands, and you can easily get the flu. Even after washing your hands regularly, try to avoid touching the areas mentioned.

3. Keep your distance

As you know, flu and cold are highly contagious. Chances are very high that if you go close to a person who has flu, you will most probably also contract it. Therefore, keep your distance as much as possible, and if you find yourself in a room with someone who has flu, ensure that the room is well ventilated.

4. Drink hot fluids

We cannot stress enough how much drinking hot fluids will keep you healthy during the cold and flu season. A hot cup of lemon tea infused with honey will go a long way to ensure that you do not get the bad flu or catch a cold. You can add some lemon, ginger, garlic, and honey to your hot water and get to enjoy all their benefits. Honey, for instance, is antibacterial and soothes a sore throat. On the other hand, lemon has great properties that help maintain the body's electrolyte balance. Additionally, they greatly help reduce phlegm and are a great source of vitamin C.

5. Eat a balanced diet

If you want to avoid catching a cold or the flu, you need to watch your diet. The food we eat plays a significant role in our immune system. If you were used to eating junk, it is about time to check on your diet. Ensure that you eat a balanced diet that incorporates carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, proteins, and healthy fats. Furthermore, you need to stay religious in eating your fruits and vegetables. Fruits such as oranges, limes, pears, cranberries, apples, etc., can help you a great deal to avoid the cold and flu.

6. Take your supplements

There are many supplements that you can take to boost your immune system and consequently keep the cold and flu at bay. Ensure that you stock up on your vitamin c supplements, especially as they are antioxidants and boost our immune system.

7. Keep your home clean

Lastly, you need to ensure that your surroundings are clean. Ensure that you clean your house by dusting, mopping the floors, and sanitizing the surfaces. This will ensure that no germs are lingering around.

Take Away

If you want to stay healthy and avoid contracting the cold or the flu, be sure to follow the tips mentioned above religiously.
