Actress Helena Bonham Carter and director Tim Burton had called it quits after 13 years of being together.
The 48-year-old actress' rep has confirmed the breakup in a statement:
"Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter separated amicably earlier this year and have continued to be friends and co-parent their children. We would ask that you respect their privacy and that of their children during this time."
Their split allegedly was caused by a third party on Burton's end. The "Big Eyes" director was recently photographed kissing a mysterious blonde woman this fall. Then partner Carter, however, held that the news was an "absolute nonsense". Her representative further claimed that the picture had been taken out of context as the two were actually "out with a large group includes family, friends and work colleagues." Both parties had yet to comment on the claim that Burton's infidelity was the reason for the breakup.
While the pair never married, Burton and Carter famously lived in adjoining houses in London. The actress shared that the houses were linked together to allow the couple to spend time together and apart whenever they please. They also only shared a bed occasionally as she "has an issue with talking and he with snoring."
The couple had been spotted on a stroll with their two children, Billy Ray and Nell, on Christmas Day, confirming that they are still friends despite the separation. Burton and Carter were also seen together at a musical performance in London earlier this week. It was previously reported that the 48-year-old actress had been devastated by the split.
Burton and Carter first met in 2001 at the set of "Planet of the Apes". The two had a number of blockbuster hits together including "Corpse Bride." "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", and the 2010 fantasy film "Alice in Wonderland".
