Fernando Alonso, 33, was airlifted to a hospital in Spain following crash in his MacLaren-Honda into a wall during a Formula One test session. Meanwhile, latest health update shows that he is in a stable condition and making a solid recovery. He was still advised to remain in the hospital for further evaluation and observation.
From the scene of the incident, he was driven to the circuit's medical center where first aid was administered. He was sedated as per protocol and was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Spain.
During the test session, the two-time world champion skidded off Catalunya track near Barcelona at Turn 3 and he has hit the inside wall. It was the fourth day of the second official pre-season test session. Updates say that he was conscious when medics responded on the scene which is a good sign.
According to BBC Sport News, his McLaren team has revealed that he had undergone a thorough analysis and the results were all normal. The accident was rooted to the gusty winds and there were no reports that it was because of a mechanical failure of any kind.
They added that he is kept in the hospital for further observation. He had been conscious the whole time being able to talk to his family and hospital staff.
This is not the first he incurred an accident during a race, Autoblog reports. In the course of his decade and a half grid as a race car driver, he was in an accident way back in 2003 in the Brazilian Grand Prix where he crashed at 180 miles per hour.
In 2010, he crashed again while practicing for the 2010 Monaco Grand Prix wherein he was not allowed to participate in the qualifying session. Nevertheless, Alfonso survived all crash and this one seemed to be not as critical as the others. He hopes to get to work soon.
