The much-awaited sequel to 2012 film "Prometheus" has been confirmed by 20th Century Fox. "Prometheus 2" will be released by 2016 and will still be directed by Ridley Scott. Michael Fassbender will be reprising his role as the android named David as well as Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw.
"If we're lucky, there'll be a second part. It does leave you with some nice open questions," Director Ridley Scott previously said.
He also added that the sequel would follow Shaw's next destination. "I'd love to explore where the hell [Dr. Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise cannot be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous."
Scott also mentioned that there will be brand new villains in "Prometheus 2" and it will definitely stray away from what was seen in his previous creations. There will probably be no more xenomorphs in the sequel, but hinted at another monster's invasion in the 3rd act.
"The alien's real, which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with Prometheus 2, what I'm trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act," the director said.
This announcement prompted speculations about the link to "Prometheus" and "Alien." Both films will supposedly take place in the same universe with "Prometheus 2" becoming a springboard for the story of "Alien 5."
However, Scified reported that, while "Prometheus 2" aims to get rid of xenomorphs in order to expand the franchise, "Alien 5" will be focusing on the creature and its iconic characters such as Ellen Ripley. It has been confirmed that Sigourney Weaver will return for her role as the film's protagonist.
"Prometheus 2" reportedly does not have a script yet as well as "Alien 5." Moreover, the "Alien" film will not be happening until after "Prometheus 2."
