Last year, a series of posts by Avril Lavigne swirled online raising speculations on a problem with her health. Apparently, she was suffering from a disease she does not want to disclose to the public. However, she revealed the serious disease that she has been fighting for almost a year now. She suffered from Lyme disease, keeping her bedridden for months.

"I thought I was dying," the 30-year old singer said after she was locked up on her bed for five months due to Lyme disease she got from a tick bite.

In an interview in People Magazine, the singer revealed that the debilitating bacterial infection was the reason behind her being absent in public for several months. Rumors even swirled that the reason she was absent was her rocky marriage with husband, Chad Kroeger, who immediately dismissed the issue.

"I had no idea a bug bite could do this," she said. "I was bedridden for five months."

"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying. I had complete weakness and fatigue. One night I tried to brush my teeth on the tour bus and couldn't even stand. There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand," Lavigne told People Magazine.

She added, "'It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."

Meanwhile, The Rolling Stone reported that Lavigne is now '80 percent' better and she is now ready to go back to work. By April, she is set to release her new single, "Fly" which is a promotional song for the 2015 Special Olympics.

Lyme disease, as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a bacterial infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi which is transmitted to humans through tick bites. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and skin rash. However, if the condition gets worse, it may cause debilitating pain and weakness that can leave the person bedridden for a long time.
