The highly-anticipated "Street Fighter 5" aims to widen Capcom's fanbase by providing something unexpected to gamers.

"With 'Street Fighter 5,' we have a fantastic opportunity to create something with a larger scope, a game that encompasses all that 'Street Fighter' has become in the last few years, but which also expands on that to become something it has never been before as well," Yoshinori Ono, franchise producer, told Edge Magazine in an interview.

"So now we want to create something that nobody is expecting. It's going to be a title that caters to fans, of course, but one that also invites completely new players onto the scene."

Ono went on to explain that there is a lot of excitement in the team for the upcoming game which is a good sign that "Street Fighter 5" will come out unique and different. He revealed that the game's development was the easiest to start than its predecessor. The team's eagerness also meant fewer obstacles and stress for the studio as a whole.

"What I've learned over the years is that it's not always the loudest voices that you need to listen to. Often these people don't represent the masses. So it's a case of finding key people in communities around the world, those who aren't as visible perhaps, in order to hear their take," Ono added.

Capcom revealed a spring 2016 release window for "Street Fighter 5" in their blog last month. "Everyone is fired up for Street Fighter V coming to the PS4 and PC next spring," the studio wrote.

However, in a statement they sent to GameSpot.com, Capcom stated that the "Spring 2016" announcement is not an official release date.

"The date that was listed on Capcom Unity was just a tentative release time and no official announcements have been made regarding the release of Street Fighter V," the studio admitted.
