The BET Awards 2015 aired on Sunday, Jun. 28 at the Microsoft Theater in LA. Going into the network's 15th anniversary show, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Lil Wayne were favorites to win. In the end, a myriad of awards saw the names of  fellow celebs Terrence Howard, Sam Smith and the "evergreen-favorite" Nicki Minaj.

The show has been around for more than a decade and recognizes the best in "rap, hip-hop, R&B, sports and movies," Fansided said.

Apart from being the 15th anniversary celebration for the show, it has also been the 14th straight year that the awards show aired on BET. BET is making history this year and it is an important milestone for the awards, nominees and performers.

John Legend, Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Mob along with a host of other stars like Russell Wilson, Idris Elba, and LeBron James will also participate in the BET awards show.

The movie "Selma"was snubbed by the Academy Awards and it hopes to pick up several awards at the BET for its artistic elements and its impact on the industry. Analysts say that the film was "unacceptably" overlooked at the Oscars.
