The popular TV host of Fashion Police and comedian Joan Rivers died peacefully on September 4, 2014, after suffering from cardiac arrest last August 28, 2014. She was 81 years old.
In a statement released by her daughter, Melissa, she mentioned that her mother died at 1:17 p.m. in Mount Sinai Hospital while being surrounded by loved ones. Together with her son, Cooper, she expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff who took care of her mother. Melissa and Joan starred in their own hit reality show Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best? Once in a while, Melissa also co-hosts Fashion Police.
Melissa developed cardiac arrest while being operated on for her vocal chords. She was immediately put into induced coma and stayed in the intensive care unit for a few days. On September 3, Melissa announced that her mother was taken out of the ICU and brought to a private room. She was in life support.
While the family wishes for their privacy, her case is currently subject for investigation. A team visited the endoscopy center in Yorkville, New York, last Thursday. It's where Joan underwent the surgery where she later became unresponsive and suffered cardiac arrest. The Department of Health released a statement, saying the investigation is based on reports provided by health care staff and the public.
Joan's real name was Joan Alexandra Rosenberg. She was of Russian-Jewish descent and was born in New York in the 1930s. Aside from being an actress and a host, she was also a producer and a writer. Some of her published works were Still Talking, Don't Count the Candles: Just Keep the Fire Lit, and Diary of a Mad Diva. She had also won a Daytime Emmy for The Joan Rivers Show and a Tony for playing Sally in Sally Marr . . . and Her Escorts. She was known for her satirical humor, brass attitude, and snarky remarks about people and events.
