Gone are the days when grandparents and the elderly in general are excluded from the rest of the population. A 2014 survey conducted by TODAY discovered that grandma and grandpa are happier, busier, and more involved than ever.

This survey was taken by 1, 200 parents and 900 grandparents, with questions ranging from the type of nicknames they prefer, to their grand parenting styles.

One of the main findings of the survey show that today's grandparents spend a great deal of time with their grandchildren. Statistical data shows that 54 percent of the parents who took the survey observe that their parents spend more time with the grand kids, compared to when the parents themselves were still children. It was also found that 42 percent of the grandmas and grandpas see the grandchildren weekly, while 22 percent of the kids see their grandparents daily. Spending a lot of time with their grand kids makes grandparents happy, as revealed by the survey.

Furthermore, it has also been found that 86 percent of parents and 90 percent of grandparents find it easy to agree on styles of parenting. Majority of the survey takers also concluded that their grandparents are hands-on in terms of bringing up their grandchildren.

Grandparents today are also more upbeat and dynamic, and busier than ever, as confirmed by the survey results. Also, the website Grandparents.com which is under the American Grandparents Association shared its data on grandparents' activities. The data showed that 48 years old is the average age of grandparents in the United States. Also, grannies and granddads seem to be enjoying their time in sports ad exercise, with over 43 percent regular stretching those hips. Forty five percent of grandparents are into social media- Twitter, Facebook, among others. Sixty percent of them have full-time or part-time jobs, 10 percent have tattoos, and 6 percent have attempted starting a blog.
