Affirmations-positive statements and declarations that are intended to redirect the mind and focus on optimistic thoughts and positive experience-have long been considered as tools to combat feelings of sadness and despair. Research reveals that positive affirmations provide a number of health and psychological benefits. Meanwhile, can these be effective enough to alleviate symptoms of psychopathological conditions such as depression?

An Arizona State University study has found that affirmations are the most influential part of the recovery process for depression.  It may not be fully responsible for remission of symptoms, but positive psychologists advocate how these affirmations can serve as supplements to get us through the day, even for those who have been diagnosed with depression.
