Federal safety officers are recalling 4.7 million units of Graco strollers in the United States, an estimated 202,000 in Canada and 10,300 in Mexico due to recent reports of finger injuries. About 11 finger injuries were reported wherein six of them were full fingertip amputations.
The folding strollers were manufactured in China from August 1, 2000 to September 25, 2014.
The following models Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, LiteRider, Sierra, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate Model Strollers and Travel Systems are the ones being recalled.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission details in an automated press release, "Graco, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a recall of certain strollers. The folding hinge on the sides of the stroller can pinch a child's finger, posing a laceration or amputation hazard."
They also announced that those who purchased their products to contact Graco immediately for a free repair kit. The repair kits will be available from the firm at the beginning of December 2014. They added, "While waiting for a repair kit, caregivers should exercise extreme care when unfolding the stroller to be certain that the hinges are firmly locked before placing a child in the stroller. Caregivers are advised to immediately remove the child from a stroller that begins to fold to keep their fingers from the side hinge area."
