Not everyone was pleased with the sequel's plot, but "How to Train Your Dragon 3" plot, cast and release date rumors are hinting that things could be more disappointing in the third installment.
This early, speculations are already circulating that main characters Hiccup and Toothless will need to say goodbye to each other as they will begin to lead their own tribes.
"DeBlois has a plan for 'How to Train Your Dragon 3' to show Hiccup and Toothless as grown up characters but they are still the best friends to each other," Movie News Guide reported.
"They are now the leaders of their own tribes and the plot will bring them in such a point that they will have a tough situation to choose between their friendship or save their leadership. This is the time when Hiccup will realize that he can accomplish any work without Toothless."
Not a lot of details have been shared online, however, speculations have been heavy and are hinting the end for the dragon-human partnership.
"I'm also playing with the idea of what happened to the dragons and why they are no more, as suggested by Cressida Cowell's books," director Dean DeBlois told Collider.
"So the whole mystery of where did they go? Did they come back? What transpired? I think it's all compelling stuff and it's definitely a story that's gonna have a lot more Toothless emphasis in it. We continue to get more insight into the dragon world and shed light on their intelligence and all the aspects that we've been slowly cooking over the last two films."
It will surely be interesting to see how the story will unfold most especially since "How to Train Your Dragon 2" baddie Drago will reportedly make a return.
"You have to wait until the third film to actually see where Drago's character goes," DeBlois shared. "He's a lot more complex than he's presented in this second installment."
"How to Train Your Dragon 3" is slated for a 2018 release.
