There have been rumors which suggest David Bowie might collaborate with the iconic virtual band, Gorillaz for their new album.

Gorillaz is set to release their next new album in 2016. The upcoming album will be the band's first in the last five years. Their last full studio album was 2010 released "Plastic Beach."

The rumors circulated after the band's co-founder Jamie Hewlett uploaded an Instagram post teasing a potential new collaboration with David Bowie, reported Kpopstarz.

The instagram post captioned "Bad David" and featured a picture of an early 1970s David Bowie, which has been animated to look like a part of the cartoon band.

Back in October, band member Jamie Hewlett had confirmed in an interview with DIY Mag that Gorillaz are working on a new album.

"That's next year," Hewlett said speaking of upcoming plans for Gorillaz, reported Kpopstarz. "I'm working on it at the moment, and it's going very well. I'm very excited. I don't want to say too much about it, but I'm at that phase of experimentation. What I try not to do when I'm working in this creative period, the cooking of the mess, is go to other peoples' exhibitions and look at other peoples' work. I close my eyes, and don't want to know what anyone else is doing. Doing that has kind of ruined the creative process for me in the past, and I don't want to let that happen again."

Also in a previous interview with NME, band member Damon Albarn had talked about how Gorillaz is preparing for the new album and that he missed the life of being in the studio all day working for the disc.

"I'd love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week," Albarn said while talking about the new Gorillaz album.
