Augmented reality is coming to consumers through the Microsoft Hololens and may change the whole future of entertainment.

Microsoft gives a preview of how the future of watching sports is going to be immersive and interactive. The company has uploaded a video preview as the official technology sponsor of the National Football League on augmented reality.

"With HoloLens, running Windows 10, your favorite players could be brought to life through high-definition, 3D displays – allowing you to experience the athleticism and skills behind their stats," shared a blog post on Microsoft. "That game-changing play could pop up as a 3D hologram so you could view the field from all angles, all while your fantasy scores update in real-time, without the need for you to look down at another screen."

The video released on the Microsoft Youtube Channel showed off full sized holograms of players with their player stats making it look like you've stepped into a video game. Not only does it show a screen that could be as big as a wall, but users can interact with what they see with the use of hand gestures.

While this device may look like the future is in within our reach, Verge noted that the Microsoft Hololens had a tendency of overselling the image output of the product.

"The field of view, for example, can accommodate a medium-sized coffee table from a reasonable distance," explained the site. "It's a little harder to buy a wall-sized video screen, but that depends largely on how much space viewers can put between themselves and the wall."

The device is supposed to theoretically work like it does in the preview video, but that doesn't mean that it lacks the technological advancements it claims. The holograms may not take up a user's entire vision at first but it will still reportedly impress users as there are plenty of applications that will run just fine.

Consumers will be able to get to experience augmented reality at home with the new VR Tech but it looks like it will be a few more years before the Microsoft Hololens gets released.

Independent reported that even the price of the consumer versions haven't been finalized, however, developer kits are priced at $3000.

Microsoft reportedly sees the Hololens being used in careers in design and architecture where the device sharing feature will improve the possibilities and allow more people to work together. However, the design of the device still needs work as it looks bulky and may not be user-friendly.
