"Avatar 2" production is slated to begin on April 15 and the team will be shooting the movie, in different locations across New Zealand and Manhattan Beach, Calif. but no release date has been announced, according to the International Business Times UK.

The film will be directed by James Cameron, while the script is written by Amanda Silver of "Rise of the Apes" and Rick Jaffa. The cast includes Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Stephen Lang, who will all reprise their role.

Cameron is said to be working on three sequels to his 2009 blockbuster, "Avatar." He plans to release one movie a year, for three consecutive years and the first sequel was scheduled to launch late this year. "Avatar 2's" release date has been allegedly moved to Chrismas 2017 but new reports say it might even be sometime in 2018, revealed NME.

The film's release date will reportedly be delayed for a lot of reasons, including trying to avoid releasing the movie when "Star Wars VIII" hits theaters. Disney is planning to launch its film on Dec. 20, 2017.

The movie's team is rumored to be building a new technology for shooting scenes under water, which is causing more delay. Cameron also wants to shoot all three sequels side by side and that gigantic task, will take a lot of time.

The first sequel disappeared from 20th Century Fox's 2017 calendar and now Fox has yet to make an announcement. Jim Gianopulos is the studio's Chairman and CEO, recently told investors, "James Cameron has his own pace."

My Entertainment world has described the upcoming film's story below.

"Jake Sully permanently transfers his consciousness to his Na'vi avatar and begins a new life with Princess Neytiri after they defeat the human colonizers."

There has never been an official announcement on "Avatar 2's" release date but it seems that Cameron really wants the film released on Christmas.

"Avatar" was the highest-grossing film in 2009, raking in over $2.8 billion dollars at cinemas around the globe. The film had nine Oscar nominations and took home three, all from technical categories.
