"Ghost in the Shell" will hit the big screens worldwide March 2017.

According to IMDB, Scarlett Johansson will be playing the lead character as she goes up against Michael Pitt as the Laughing Man. Johansson's character will be supported by Batou who will be played by Pilou Asbæk.

Last year, Project Casting posted a casting call for extras for the upcoming film. According to the report, the film is expected to start shooting early 2016 in New Zealand. Specifically, the film will be shot in Wellington's Stone St. Studios. The casting call was for extras of different ethnicity.

Confirming the film's shooting in Wellington, New Zealand is the recent sightings of the actress along with her husband Romain Dauriac.

Celebuzz reports that the couple was spotted leaving the gym as the actress trains hard as the lead actress of the anticipated movie adaptation of the popular anime.

Since the shooting is set in New Zealand, is there a possibility that the film might actually feature a setting different from the film?

According to Variety, the film will stay true to the original content since "Johansson will play a member of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission's covert ops unit attempting to bring down a nefarious computer hacker."

The reason why the film is currently set in Wellington is the fact that New Zealand gives impressive financial assistance and incentives for local and international films.

According to NZFilm, "The rebate on international film and television productions now rises from 15 per cent to 20 per cent...A further 5 per cent will be available for international productions that deliver significant economic benefits to New Zealand."

Stone St. Studios will also live up to the demands of the upcoming film. Their official website lists the trilogy for "Lord of the Rings," "King Kong" and "The Hobbit" as their big budget projects in the past years.
