While the official release date of Oculus Rift still remains unannounced, the virtual reality device's shipping date has been pushed to nearly four months owing to a huge number of pre-orders.
According to Christian Today, the Oculus Rift's ordering page currently shows July 2016 as the expected shipping date, which means customers who order in the coming days will have to wait until July to receive their Rift.
As announced by Oculus Rift's inventor and founder Palmer Luckey at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2016, the virtual reality device will start shipping on March 28.
The Rift purchase pack includes a headset with built-in headphones and mic, sensor, an Xbox One controller and the Oculus Remote. In addition, Rift pre-orders will also include free access to "Lucky's Tale," a Super Mario-like game and "Eve: Valkyrie," a space dogfighting game.
The maker claims that there will be over 100 VR titles available for the Rift by the end of 2016, including the wildly popular "Minecraft."
Furthermore, to please the developer community, the company has announced that it has integrated both the Unreal Engine 4 and Unity game creation tools into the software. The Oculus Rift will use a dedicated software platform called Oculus Home to display all the content on its release date.
Oculus released the following recommend specs for a compatible PC: Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater; Processor: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater; Memory: 8GB+ RAM; Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output; Input: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port; Operating system: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer.
The company has announced that it will also sell Oculus-ready PCs, which will be available for pre-orders in February starting at $1,499, reported Alphr. Customers can try out the Rift headset at various retail stores for free ahead of release.
It is expected that the official release date for Oculus Rift might get announced soon, the virtual reality device is currently available for pre-order for a whopping price of $599.
