There were reports that Johnny Depp started dating Amber Heard while he was with Vanessa Paradis, which means that he cheated on his former partner.
During a press interview at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, the 52-year-old actor revealed how his romance with his 29-year-old wife started.
"She was in my head, so I tracked her down," Depp said as reported by PEOPLE. "We tracked each other down. Actually, incidentally, it was amazing. It was on the first day of press on 'The Rum Diary.' Then we married that very day!"
"The Rum Diary" was shown in theaters back in October 2011, but Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis only announced their breakup in June 2012. That's why there were reports coming out that he had cheated on his former partner with Amber Heard.
Hollywood Gossip retracted the cheating rumors and extended their apologies to Depp, Heard, and Paradis because they don't have a factual basis for their claims. They just based their report on what PEOPLE published without further research.
"We misinterpreted his comments and arrived at the inaccurate conclusion that he and Heard began dating before he had separated from Paradis," the tabloid explained.
"In truth, Depp has stated that his romantic relationship with Heard began not on set, but rather during the film's press tour, at which time, he had already separated from Paradis," they added.
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have been in a relationship for 14 years and they have two children together - Lily-Rose, 16, and Jack, 13. Many people were surprised why the two suddenly broke up and some reports suggested that it was all because of Amber Heard.
During an interview with Extra, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor revealed the reason why he didn't marry the 43-year-old model unlike with the "Danish Girl" actress whom he married in an instant.
"If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not," Depp said as reported by Hello. "But the thing is, I'd be so scared of ruining her last name! She's got such a good last name."
