Despite being loathed by film critics, the "Transformers" series under director Michael Bay has been a blockbuster success.
According to comicbook.com, Hasbro executive Stephen Davis confirmed that the "Transformers" film franchise has 4 sequels coming its way.
"You're going to see a new Transformers movie coming from Hasbro and Paramount and Michael Bay and our other partners," Davis proudly announced.
"In fact, we just finished -- as some of you may have read -- an incredible experience," he clarified. "We decided we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a 3 month period of time."
"Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with -- shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for 'A Beautiful Mind', and written a bunch of great movies," Davis shared. "And they plotted out the next ten years of 'Transformers'. Similarly we are doing the same in television and digital. So stay tuned 'Transformers 5' is on its way. ...And 6 and 7 and 8."
Now, as reported by cinemablend.com, the latest "Transformer" film may focus on one of the franchise's most loved characters, Bumblebee. While the past 3 films under Michael Bay has focused on the human protagonist-be it Shia Le Beouf or Mark Wahlberg's characters, the main Autobot has been Optimus Prime.
As seen on movieweb.com, Hasbro announced that Bumblebee will actually have a spinoff.
"In 2017, Michael Bay will direct the next chapter of the Transformers films, with Mark Wahlberg returning to star," the announcement read. "That film is slated for release on June 23. On June 8, 2018, a new film is being developed which will tell the never before heard story of Bumblebee, one of the most beloved characters from Hasbro's Transformers universe."
"A third new film will continue the story of Hasbro's iconic franchise which is scheduled for release on June 28, 2019."
