The hit series' sixth season is just around the corner and the show's inevitable end may be near as well, which brings fans to speculate that a "Game of Thrones" prequel movie or series may be in the works, according to Variety in 2015.

HBO's programming president Michael Lombardo hopes to postpone the series' end for as long as possible but he said the showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss think that there may be two more years after Season 6.

Lombardo also shared that he would love for them to change their minds because he would like to see the show run for a decade.

"We started this journey with David and Dan," said Lombardo. "It's their vision. Would I love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive? Absolutely. We'll have an honest conversation that explores all possible avenues. What I'm not going to do is have a show continue past where the creators believe where they feel they've finished with the story."

He was also asked what he thinks about a "Game of Thrones" prequel being made into a movie or a series. Lombardo said that he was open to anything the showrunners would want to do and right now, their focus is figuring out the show's next few years.

Rumors also had it, that a movie was in the works and this was shut down by "GOT" author, George RR Martin. A fan left a question on his blog, asking if the news about a film based on "Robert's Rebellion" is false, reported Forbes.

"Yes, completely false," wrote George RR Martin. "No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion."

The author also said in another interview, that if there was a "Game of Thrones" prequel movie in the future, he would not be involved in the project. He added would let David and Dan deal with the project.

Meanwhile, HBO has released some "GOT" Season 6 spoilers, seemingly showing fans that one character may be back.

It might not be the character many fans are speculating to return. The images released by the network shows Patrick Malahide portraying his role as Balon Greyjoy, shared Movie News Guide.

The sixth season's premiere is on April 24, on HBO.
