"Castle" season 8 could be the show's last run. Fans are fearing for the worse for one of ABC's well loved series.
After suffering a near cancellation in season 8 because of contract problems for mainstays Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, it seems that "Castle" is predicted to have the same scary predicament once season 9 begins.
Several speculations about the show's cancellation and renewal have started to surface online. Apart from that, there have been talks about a "Castle" spin-off. What will be the show's future?
TV by the Numbers claimed that ABC should axe the show once and for all. "'Castle' hasn't posted above a 1.2 same-day rating all season, and that's not likely to change as we hit spring and TV viewing in general goes down."
"No eight-year-old network drama is cheap, and this show would likely get more expensive with whatever it took to get its two leads back for a ninth season," the article continued. "'Castle' has been a dependable performer for ABC for the better part of a decade. The network should do the show (and itself) a solid by setting an end date."
ABC president Peter Lee also gave a glimpse of the series' fate at the Television Critics Association. While many worry for the upcoming run, Lee gave a very optimistic answer about "Castle."
"We'd love Castle to keep going for many years to come," he said as reported by TV Line. "There are a lot of conversations going on as to how we could do that."
"I don't want to give a glimpse to what those ideas might be," he added, "but I'm feeling optimistic that we've got some good ideas."
