The New York Knicks have been in dire need of an upgrade at their point guard position and has been actively looking in the trade market.
According to hoopshabit.com, Detroit Pistons back-up point guard Brandon Jennings was strongly rumored to be a desired trade asset by the Knicks.
As per nj.com, the Knicks would have offered Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant.
It was reported by espn.com that the Knicks "wasn't impressed with what they saw from Jennings during Detroit's loss to the Knicks on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with their thinking."
It then added that "Jennings was playing his first game in nearly 11 months after rupturing his left Achillies, though. So the organization's opinion of Jennings can certainly change if he returns to form."
However, this all changed when the Pistons decided to ship Jennings and Eryan Ilyasova to the Orlando Magic for Tobias Harris as per ESPN. Both teams expressed their excitement about the trade.
Pistons general manager Jeff Bower shared "This is a move that can be looked at as a long-term move, as one that will fit with our core group of players, and we'll be able to keep them together."
Orlando's general manager Rob Hennigan was also enthusiastic about the transaction and its potential to push their playoff campaign. "I think we're right in striking distance for a playoff spot," Hennigan said. "We feel like our team has played well the last few games, and we just have to sustain that momentum and add to that momentum. The goal is to make the playoffs and the goal is to win, and that's what we're trying to do.
"We see Brandon and Ersan as really good fits, both short-term and long-term for us," he added. "We also were able to open up some flexibility this summer in the cap-space realm, if we decided to go that route. It sets up a few different ways we can play this."
With Jennings out of the equation, experts believe the Knicks still have their eyes fixated on Atlanta Hawks Jeff Teague. As seen on sbnation.com, the Hawks Jeff Teague could be on his way out of the Hawks roster. It was reported that the potential offer that will entice the Hawks is either Aaron Afflalo or Derrick Williams for Teague as opposed to Calderon.
