After "Repentless" came out in 2015, new Slayer guitarist Gary Holt revealed that they have immediate plans of doing a new album follow-up as soon as possible.
In a recent interview with In The Loop magazine, Holt revealed that he has a few songs in mind for the follow-up of their latest release. He also claimed that songwriting for the next effort should be expected to be better, as they prepare to go on tour to promote "Repentless."
"I've certainly never been one to have a shortage of material, so yeah, it's a bit premature, but down the line, if Kerry and Tom want me to, I have about as good of an insight into Slayer's writing style by now as just about anybody," the guitarist revealed. "I think I could write some things that fit right in, sure. But right now, of course, we're focused on the tour."
Meanwhile, a Blabbermouth report revealed that Kerry King is also looking forward to create songs with Holt as their guitarist and that fans should be excited about another new Slayer album after they go on the road.
The Exodus guitarist took over the guitar duties of Jeff Hanneman, who suffered from necrotizing fasciitis, which he got from a spider bite.
"I would have loved for Gary to have been more involved with writing," King told LA Weekly. "I thought a long time about this, but I didn't think SLAYER fans were ready for that yet. Even though Gary's a household name in thrash, I didn't feel that the first Slayer record without Jeff should have Gary Holt contributing as a writer."
While Slayer is on tour to promote their new album, reports of a follow up may be expected in the next few years as work could potentially start by the end of the year or by 2017.
