The virtual reality market is on the verge of heating up and fans were already anticipating the Sony PlayStation VR in the first half of 2016 until GameStop CEO Paul Raines spoiled everything.

In its report, IGN said that GameStop CEO Paul Raines in a recent comment confirmed that contrary to reports that the Sony PlayStation VR will be released earlier this year, the new device will, instead, be out later in the fall of 2016.

The comment came from the CEO's interview with Fox News where Paul Raines said, "We will launch the Sony products this fall."

The GameStop CEO further said that the company is also in talks with "in discussions with the other two players:" Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

In its commentary, Gizmodo said, "The revelation is a huge deal, especially now that the virtual reality market is on the verge of heating up."

"The PlayStation VR launch would actually mirror every major video game console release of the past decade," Gizmodo added.

It further commented that the PlayStation VR launch in fall of 2016 makes so much sense as it is a time "when gamers are willing to spend more on shiny new hardware." And for the holidays, Sony may begin bundling packages for new customers at a discounted rate. In other words, Sony's planned PlayStation VR launch in the fall would mean more sales for the company.

The report further highlighted that for the 35.9 million owners of PlayStation 4, the PlayStation VR is their obvious choice. These owners already have a console ready to run the new VR headset, as compared to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive where owners will have yet to buy expensive, high-end desktops.

On a recent update by IGN, while Paul Raines' statement may have really shocked gaming fans and enthusiasts as they were expecting for an earlier release, GameStop issued a statement clarifying that CEO Paul Raines' statements were not sanctioned by Sony.

In their statement, it said: "To clarify, Sony has not officially announced a release date for PlayStation VR. Whenever it launches, we are excited about how the technology will change gaming."
