Facebook’s Most Talked About Topics 2014: Ebola Virus Outbreak Leading The Rank In The United States, World Cup Ranks 1 In Global Topics As Robin Williams and The Ice Bucket Challenge Follow

Facebook is the leading social media site around the world. To wrap up this year, the analysts combed through all posts of its one billion plus members to find out the most talked about topics in the United States and the world from January to December this year.

First, the most talked about topic around the globe is this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil as it brought about many conversations than any event in the company's history. However, in the United States, it just ranked sixth. The Ebola Outbreak topped the list for US and ranked second in the global list.

Furthermore, one of the trending topics was the untimely death of veteran actor, Robin Williams. His memory was in the hearts of fans all over the world. It ranked fourth in the world list and 3^rd in the list in the United States.

Well, who would not forget the viral Ice Bucket Challenge that was done to support the cause for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. There were more than 17 million ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos posted to Facebook wherein even famous people participated in. Bill Gates, George W. Bush, Lady Gaga and Verne Troyer were part of the challenge among others.

Politics are tracking along the list with Conflict in Gaza came in 6^th in the global list and 7^th in the United States list. Subsequently, ISIS came in 10^th place in the United States. The famous Malaysia Airlines which had two plane incidents, one being blown by a missile and the other, still missing came in 7^th in the world trending topics and 9^th in US.
