Apple's iPhone 8, which is expected to be released this fall, is expected to be equipped with a 3D sensor camera that realizes augmented reality (AR).
According to the latest report from KGI security analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known as Apple specialist, 9to5Mac reported on the 21st.
According to the report, the front-facing camera on the iPhone 8 includes the ability to recognize 3D space. Depth information of the 2D image are combined and implemented in 3D. Through this, it becomes possible to shoot 3D (self) and AR service can be used. Face recognition, gesture recognition, and biometric recognition beyond fingerprint recognition can be supported.
The sensor was developed by Prime Senses, an infrared sensor technology company that Apple acquired in 2013. The front-side camera is Sony, while the infrared sensor receiver is produced by Foxconn and Sharp.
The 3D system is activated by transmitting invisible infrared signals and detecting the signals reflected from the object through the infrared sensor receiver.
In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo noted that the iPhone 8 is equipped with OLED panels.
The OLED-equipped iPhone 8 is expected to have a new 'functional area' at the bottom of the display. 'Functional area' is expected to replace existing home button and touch ID.
The size of the iPhone 8 is 5.8 inches, but it is similar in size to the 4.7-inch iPhone because of its minimal design (bezel). Except for the lower functional area, the real usable screen area was predicted to be 5.15 inches.
Meanwhile, Chinese research firm Techforce predicts that Apple will increase the default storage space of iPhone 8 from 32 gigabytes (GB) to 64 gigabytes.
Until the launch of the iPhone 7, Apple released its default storage space at 16GB, complaining users. It was the first 32GB on the iPhone 7 released last year, and doubles on the iPhone 8. In addition, Techforce predicted that instead of expanding its default storage space from 64GB to 8GB on the iPhone 8, it would be able to launch the 256GB model immediately without releasing the 128GB model.
