Most people love the holidays. It's the perfect time to see friends and family, and of course hand out gifts to let them know we do remember them. But there's another thing that's also common during this season.

We are talking about food poisoning. In Australia, for example, food poisoning downed more than 30 people who attended a Christmas party at Portsea found in Victoria.

More than 40 people gathered in Percy Cerutty Oval around 8:00 p.m. to celebrate their Christmas party. However, even before the event could come to an end, some had already called the paramedics since around 34 complained about diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea, which were common symptoms of food poisoning. However, by the time the ambulance and the medical personnel arrived, over half of those affected had already gone home. Those who stayed were immediately checked, but no had been brought to the hospital for further tests and observation.

Meanwhile, for those who left, one man had to be taken to the hospital because of the symptoms but had already been deemed stable while others were helped through a phone call and no longer didn't need any further medical help.

Food poisoning is actually very common in Australia with more than 5 million affected by it every year, but it seems to be more prevalent during the holiday since people attend a lot of parties. In Australia, food poisoning may be caused by bacterial or viral. In some cases, the affected person may become intoxicated with the toxins produced by certain types of bugs.

As to why these harmful organisms develop in your food, there are plenty of reasons, but they all boil down to one thing: food management. Food poisoning is more than likely to happen when the ingredients, especially meat, are not cooked thoroughly or when the ingredients themselves have already been contaminated or beyond their used-by date.
