With wide access to the internet worldwide, more and more people are becoming aware of the health benefits of alcohol to the body. A new study says people start to drink due to these health benefits. Several new studies claim that alcohol can actually help the body's health through promoting cardiovascular health and it can lengthen one's life.

In a study published in the journal, Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research as reported in Front Line Desk, the author suggests that physicians even recommend their patients who do not drink to start drinking alcohol due to its robust health benefits.

As written by the lead author of the study, Emanuel Rubin, "The overwhelming evidence suggests that physicians should counsel lifelong nondrinkers at about 40 to 50 years of age to relax and take a drink a day, preferably with dinner."

However, experts say that for those who are drinking lightly, they should continue with it and for heavy drinkers to drink in moderation.

Studies in the past suggest that drinking alcohol has many health benefits. For people with heart problems, drinking alcohol can reduce coronary artery disease. As published in Medical Daily, drinking alcohol promotes heart health because it can lower low density lipoprotein (LDL) and cholesterol levels in the blood. Subsequently, it improves insulin sensitivity in the body that influences blood clotting. Hence, formation of small blood clots is prevented.

Surprisingly, alcohol consumption can also lengthen one's life and promotes longevity. A study by the Catholic University of Campobasso reported that death risk is reduced by 18 percent. Also, people who had heart attack and have low moderate consumption of alcohol can be associated with low mortality rate.

Furthermore, it improves libido and can decrease the development of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Studies say that drinking alcohol can prevent erectile dysfunction. Common colds can be prevented too. In fact, in 2002, according to the New York Times, Spanish researchers discovered that by drinking eight to 14 glasses of wine per week, particularly red wine, one could see a 60-percent reduction in the risk of developing a cold.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines moderate drinking as no more than 1 drink per day for women and no more than 2 drinks per day for men.
