Yes, You Can Make Money from Your Poop but There's a Catch

Would you like to earn around $13,000 annually without too much effort? All you have to do is to donate your poop.

OpenBiome, a non-profit organization, has been very busy over the past few months developing an innovative though quite gross biotechnology fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT).

It is intended for patients with C. difficile bacteria, especially those who already have severe and recurring cases. This bacterium can cause damage to the linings of the gut (C. diff colitis) that can result to malabsoprtion of nutrients, diarrhea that can lead to dehydration, chronic and sometimes excruciating abdominal pain, etc. Although this can be initially treated with antibiotics, many go into relapse as the medication itself only causes the bacteria to reproduce more efficiently.

Thus, OpenBiome suggests the transplantation of fecal matter from a healthy individual to help restore the balance of bacteria in the gut, increase the production of good bacteria, and eventually eliminate the source of infection, which has a high success rate during the clinical trial.

Now they are shipping these capsules all around the country, but there's a problem: they need poop. To encourage contributions, they are willing to pay good money.

How much will you get? The company gives you $40 per sample. If you donate for five days every week, you'll receive an additional $50 as bonus. This means that within a week of pooping, you can get around $250 or $13,000 in just a year!

However, before you get too excited about donating your next poop, know the company has certain guidelines, and they are rigid. In fact, they are so meticulous in their screening process that only a handful out of a thousand poop samples can be used.

Since the facility is in Boston and poop has to be fresh before it's processed, you need to be close. Thus, they prefer those who live or near Medford, Massachusetts.

You also should be able to make regular donations for a period of 60 days (around 4 times each week), have a BMI of less than 30, and have not traveled outside Japan, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and United States a year before the donation.

The good news is that if you pass their screening, you will be paid well, get free drinks during your visit, earn prizes, and help save lives. A 450g of poop can already be given to 9 patients.
