Working in an office can bring about an afternoon slump. It doesn't have to be this way, and there are many ways to remedy this lazy afternoon feeling aside from grabbing a cup of coffee and relying too much on caffeine.
Staying awake at work during the afternoon is possible by trying out these tips:
Snack on Protein-Rich Food Instead of Carbs
Hardboiled eggs, a tuna salad, low-fat cheese- these are better options than pasta, a sandwich, or donuts. Protein helps activate energy, while carbohydrates can contribute further to the slump you're feeling.
Tidy Up Your Desk and Your Inbox
Clutter can take its toll on your energy more than you know and can lessen your productivity too. Instead of easily finding that PDF file you need or that important piece of paper, desk or computer clutter makes it harder for you to get things done faster, what with the chaos of files on your desktop, the thousands of unread emails, or those folders of paper stacked on your desk. Cleaning and clearing them out in the afternoon is easy as pie and can bring instant energy and a feeling of simple accomplishment.
Do Some Stretching
Stretching is easy to do but can do wonders in pulling you out of that afternoon slump. To stretch, simply roll your shoulders forward then backward. Breathe deeply in and out for every roll, and repeat for two minutes.
Drink Tea
Tea contains some caffeine, but not too strong that it will leave you in a crash, unlike coffee. A mid-afternoon cup is great in relaxing your body and mind. Sip your tea silently and slowly, as this process alone can effectively bring calm to an otherwise hectic day.
Get Some Sunshine
The sun is nature's gift that gives overall vitality. Go outside for around 10 minutes and sit on a spot where you can get a sufficient amount of sunlight. Getting this healthy dose of sunshine can reset the body's chronological clock and give an abundant boost of vitamin D.
