Greatist, the popular health and happiness online source, published a list early this year detailing who they deem as the "Most Influential People in Health and Fitness" for 2015.
These key figures were chosen based on a number of factors, such as social reach, research achievements, professional certifications and degrees, trend-setting, products, and media coverage.
The following people made it to Greatist's Top 5 of 100 individuals in health and fitness:
Top 5: Vani Hari, The Food Babe
Vani Hari is a blogger and food activist, best known for her investigations on harmful chemicals and ingredients in food and products. She has received criticism for dwelling into so-called "pseudoscience", but Hari has responded to such feedback head on.
Top 4: Jillian Michaels, The Biggest Fitness Winner
Jillian Michaels is known as the trainer on The Biggest Loser show. This year, she is concentrating on online personal trainings, workout DVDs, and a weekly health podcast.
Top 3: Deepak Chopra, M.D., Meditation Maven
Dr. Chopra is a popular author and meditation guru, responsible for meditation app and a 21-Day Meditation Experience, alongside Oprah. His focus is on holistic wellness, particularly stress reduction and mindfulness for the body and soul.
Top 2: Mehmet Oz, M.D., America's "Doctor"
Dr. Oz is the face behind the Emmy-Award winning show Dr. Oz and is the pen behind bestselling books. He is also a professor at the Department of Surgery at Columbia University since 2001. He shares his philosophy to The New Yorker: "I want no more barriers between patient and medicine. I would take us all back a thousand years, when our ancestors lived in small villages and there was always a healer in that village."
Top 1: Michelle Obama, First Lady
Greatist lists the First Lady as a great role model for both children and adults. She starte Let's Move, the fitness program to fight childhood obesity through its five pillars: creating a healthy start for children, empowering parents and caregivers, providing healthy food in schools, improving access to healthy, affordable foods, and increasing physical activity. Mrs. Obama also runs the White House Kitchen Garden.
