Bob Simon, "60 Minutes" reporter has been announced to be dead yesterday night after being involved in a car accident in New York City's West Side Highway.
CBS officially released an article about the reporter's passing.
The 73-year-old was reported to be in the passenger seat of a livery cab. The crash happened at around 6:45 p.m. ET, and according to CBS, the New York Polic department said that the cab lost control, and rear-ended another vehicle on the road. Both cars then crashed into the road barriers that separates the northbound and southbound traffic.
Bob was reported to have become unconscious and had sustained torso injuries. He was immediately brought to St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, where he eventually passed away.
Friends and family have expressed their grief. According to the same source cited above, CBS News President David Rhodes said, "Bob Simon was a giant of broadcast journalism, and a dear friend to everyone in the CBS News family. We are all shocked by this tragic, sudden loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob's extended family and especially with our colleague Tanya Simon."
To add to the statements expressing grief over Bob Simon, "60 Minutes" Executive Producer Jeff Fager said, "It's a terrible loss for all of us at CBS News, It is such a tragedy made worse because we lost him in a car accident, a man who has escaped more difficult situations than almost any journalist in modern times. Bob was a reporter's reporter. He was driven by a natural curiosity that took him all over the world covering every kind of story imaginable," he said. "There is no one else like Bob Simon. All of us at CBS News and particularly at 60 Minutes will miss him very much."
Despite the offcial statement, according to fans, the death of Bob Simon, "60 Minutes" reporter might have been caused by DUI, this speculation causes them to want to demand for an investigation against the cab driver who has also sustained injuries brought about by the accident.
