The much awaited midseason premiere of “Outlander” has already been scheduled on Apr. 2, and many of the show’s fans have started to get antsy to see their idols once again. Thankfully, Sam Heughan, who plays the role of Jamie Fraser, has finally revealed more details about what to expect in the romantic drama.
“We start off from Jamie’s point of view,” Heughan told Channel Guide Magazine. “We see everything that he goes through to get to the point where he tries to rescue her.”
It was previously reported by a separate Youth Health Mag article that Jamie and Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe, might have some trouble in paradise when the show returns to air. Heughan has finally answered the questions, but expertly managed to keep things under wraps.
“Their relationship is now tested constantly,” he added. “They’re always battling to get back to each other, to find some sort of common ground. It’s about their relationship moving forward and discovering about each other. Largely, that’s what a modern relationship is, really. You learning about how to interact.”
Additionally, Heughan and Balfe have been involved in a multitude of very steamy love scenes since the show started. Now that “Outlander” has gained a huge following, many of the show’s fans are dying to know whether or not there is a chance that they are dating in real life, especially with the on-screen chemistry that they clearly have.
“She’s just a lovely human being,” Heughan said about Balfe. “She’s a lot of fun. We hang out when we’re there and we hang out when we’re in Los Angeles as well. We went on a hike a few weeks ago. Yeah. It’s great. I’m very lucky. She’s a friend.”
Sadly for those who have long been shipping a real-life relationship between the two, it would appear that they are actually just very close friends.
Although it would appear that Heughan is completely relaxed with what goes on in the “Outlander” set, he admitted that he had actually needed a lot of time to “sort of decompress” after they were finished shooting for season 1.
“It took me a while,” he shared. “It took me up until Christmas, really. Then, over the Christmas break, I’m, like, ‘You know, I’m now ready.’ I feel recharged and excited about what’s going to happen in season 2.”
