Johnny Depp’s hand injury may have caused “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” to be delayed even further.
His “off-set incident,” in addition to issues with the script, tricky actor schedules, as well as rehab reports, has resulted into even more delay for a production that was initially slated as only two weeks long.
Now, a pin has reportedly been surgically inserted into Depp’s hand to help expedite its complete recovery and its return back to normal functioning. However, despite this, it would appear that the camera will not be pointing in the actor’s direction anytime soon.
This leaves film makers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg increasingly stressed by the hour, with co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem awaiting further instruction from them about what to do next.
Meanwhile, around half of the 400 total members of the production crew have been stood down, after having done any scenes that could be filmed around Depp’s character. This may have been difficult considering that Depp had the lead role in this billion-dollar production on the Gold Coast of Australia, and the crew might have already exhausted most of what they can do without him, accoridng to Empire Online.
It was initially reported that Depp’s injury will only have “minimal impact” on the film’s production. However, it would appear that is no longer the case, as The Hollywood Reporter has stated that filming has been completely halted until Apr. 15, which happens to be Depp’s schedule to return from the United States. He had left Australia on Mar. 10.
Joining Depp, Rush, and Bardem are Stephen Graham, who is returning to reprise his role as Scrum, as well as new additions to the cast, Brenton Thwaites from “The Giver” and Kaya Scodelario from “The Maze Runner.”
Despite the four-week delay, Cinema Blend has reported that “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will still be hitting theaters on Jul. 7, 2017.
