According to the website, the main story is not a continuation of the TV episode so expect to see a different plot.

The "Sherlock" Christmas Special Live Stream is set in the Victorian Era wherein Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) were transported back in time. Viewers can expect a brand new adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story which is set in 1895.

According to The Telegraph, the plot of "The Abominable Bride" revolves around Thomas Ricoletti, who was mentioned in "The Reichenbach Fall" episode.

So who is this character? He is the husband of the bride ghost who has been stalking the streets of London. Thomas arrived home one evening to surprisingly see his wife, who had committed suicide hours earlier, wearing her old wedding dress.

During an interview with the website, the TV show's creator Steven Moffat revealed what the viewers can expect in the "Sherlock" Christmas Special Live Stream called "The Abominable Bride." He promised the audience that there will be high excitement in the episode that premieres on New Year's Day.

"We couldn't sustain 90 minutes on just having a bit of fun. Our ambition was that the first 15 minutes is the fun of seeing Sherlock Holmes transposed back to the original setting. Then we've got to get on with the story," Moffat said. "It's a proper scary mystery. A good story with a good solution, but there's also the ongoing tension between the version of the characters we developed for the modern setting now sitting in Victorian times."
