NetherRealm Studios sets "Injustice 2" release date for Apr. 2016.

"Injustice 2" is the anticipated sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us," which was released in 2013. The "Injustice" franchise is developed by NetherRealm Studios, who also did "Mortal Kombat."

The first installment was released by Warner Bros. Interactive for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

Franchise Herald reported that the release date for "Injustice 2" is rumored to be the same with the "Batman V Superman" movie.

Moreover, the second installment from "Injustice" will showcase important DC characters such as Vixen, Black Canary and Captain Atom.

It was also rumored that "Injustice 2" will have a lineup that includes Red Hood and Amazo.

According to Attack of the Fanboy, a sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us" would sell well regardless of its release date but will certainly be a no-tie when pitted with "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."

"This would put it out either right before or right after in a slot that NetherRealm loves, with 'Mortal Kombat 9,' 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' and 'Mortal Kombat X' all releasing in the same time period," Attack of the Fanboy explained.

Aside from speculating on the release date, websites like Den of Geek were keen to make a list of characters they wanted to see on "Injustice 2."

Characters such as Supergirl, Static, Poison Ivy, The Shade, Red Hood, Captain Cold, Bleez, Darkseid, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were among the ones listed on Den of Geek's wish list.

Apparently, 2016 is a major year for DC Comics apart from the release date of "Injustice 2."

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" might have potential for downloadable costumes aside from DC Comics various TV series.

Regarding the "Injustice 2" release date, NetherRealm front runner Ed Boon dropped a teaser via Twitter.

"@Official_AIAS @noobde Hope you can make it next year! EB: Absolutely!... unless we ship a game in April 2016 ;)" Boon tweeted.
