"Narcos" season 2 is turning out to be one intense ride as it will be a countdown to Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar's final days. However, there seems to be some minor bumps in the road for the Netflix show as the release date may have been delayed.
Entertainment Weekly said that the reason for the delay of "Narcos" season 2 is that the show is left without a showrunner.
It was revealed that Adam Fierro is stepping down after Chris Brancato left the show earlier this year. This will most likely complicate things and will add snags to the show, which could cause a possible delay in the second season.
However, it was reported that Jose Padilha and Eric Newman will return as executive producers. The duo said that they will be working with a team of writers, though it was not specified as to who will be taking up the role of showrunner yet.
Executive producer Eric Newman also shared with Slash Film that "Narcos" season 2 will ultimately end in Pablo Escobar's death as the second season has a relatively short time period to focus on.
Newman also said that while he wanted to showcase actor Wagner Moura, he added that Escobar "had to die." He also teased on a possible third season saying that there were more stories to be told outside of Escobar's life. He teased that he and the writers were discussing the "possibilities."
"The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season one," he said. "At the point of Escobar's escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live. That's not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending."
