New evidence of the confirmed "The Last of Us 2" release date has surfaced online.
Fans have been waiting for more details about the rumored sequel, but Naughty Dog has been very quiet about its development. Now, a new ray of hope has glimmered as the rumored title of the new game has been released online.
"Back in December of 2015, Sony filed a new trademark titled 'Days Gone,'" Movie Pilot reported. "Some have speculated that this will be that this will be the new subtitle for The Last of Us 2, making it 'The Last Of Us 2: Days Gone.'"
"First, this is something coming from Sony, instead of some supposed 'leak' from a voice actor. or a developer stumbling over their words. Also it's not an accident, you don't accidentally trademark something. Something called 'Days Gone' is coming, we just don't know what it is yet."
The site continued to speculate what the new game will deliver in the light of its rumored title.
"'Days Gone' to me, sounds like a continuation of the story in some way," it said. "As 'Days Gone' likely refers to the days that have gone by since something occurred...I think it's more likely that 'Days Gone' is a reference to what happened since events of the first game, this would most likely point to the game following Ellie, as she copes with what she's been through."
Movie Pilot previously speculated that "The Last of Us 2" will focus on Joel's death and Ellie's solo journey.
"Joel's last words to Ellie would be that he lied about the fire flies, but he'd die before he could tell her what really happened," the article stated. "After that heart breaking scene, Ellie would go on a soul searching journey to find out what really happened with the fire flies. This Journey would take up most of the game."
