The Memphis Grizzlies are reported to be looking to disband their famous grit and grind philosophy and start anew. One of the key players in this slow-paced style of play is post-up star, Zach Randolph.
Despite rejuvenating his career in Memphis, the Randolph and Marc Gasol pairing has not brought the team Playoff success.
According to Bleacher Report, head coach Dave Joerger has started to use small ball lineups more frequently with Matt Barnes taking Randolph's position. If the team feels they cannot win with this lineup, the Grizzlies could look to do a complete reset of their team.
The team started out the season poorly which led to rumors of their head coach being fired. Fresh off a successful season where the team was among the Western Conference's elite teams, the Grizzlies were blown out by multiple teams in their first few games by wide margins. Insider Marc Stein of espn.com said that Joerger was on the hot seat especially with the coach's known conflict with team owner Robert Pera.
Stein reported that the team's initial losses "has led to fears within the organization that owner Robert Pera won't wait long to make a drastic change. The Grizzlies lost their home opener to the Cavs by 30, got blitzed soon thereafter by Cleveland's conquerors in the NBA Finals by an unfathomable 50, then fell behind by 26 points in the Pacific Northwest before settling for a 19-point defeat to the Blazers."
However, it seems like Joerger will be here to stay as hoopshabit.com shared that general manager Chris Wallace clarified that Joerger's job was not in jeopardy. Given this, the team may look to improve by trading and upgrading their roster instead.
It was reported by movienewsguide.com that the Raptors could look to be one of the teams to trade for the power forward. The Raps could send a package of Terrence Ross, Bismack Biyombo and Patrick Patterson for the Grizzlies' Randolph and Courtney Lee.
