Not many people know it but Melissa McCarthy actually designs her own gowns to red carpet events, which perfectly highlights her recent weight loss.
Now, she's starting to take in clients. Well, sort of.
The "Ghostbusters 3" comedian designed the gown that her friend LaToya Morgan wore for the
NAACP Image Award where she was nominated for "Turn."
Morgan told People that she was going to buy off the rack when her friend suggested that she go to McCarthy instead, who in turn agreed to do the dress for her.
The writer said that what sold her on Melissa McCarthy was when she wore the dress that she designed when she got the Star for the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"I was like, 'Can you get me something that sort of looks like that?' She literally sat down and started sketching this and my mouth dropped to the floor," Morgan said. "She sketched the most beautiful, beautiful gown and I was so impressed."
For the dress, the comedian took inspiration from a traditional Japanese kimono using light multi-hued fabric.
She also said that it was the first time that she designed a dress for somebody else, other than herself.
"I tried to keep it to something very simple but then when I saw that [floral] fabric I had to kind of wrestle ... I really selfishly was like, 'I may keep this for myself. I'll keep looking for LaToya!' But [the floral fabric] just seemed like it would be so pretty on her," McCarthy shared.
Although people have positive comments about Melissa McCarthy's weight loss, her clothes have been hit and miss.
At the Golden Globes 2016, for instance, fashion critics were not so enamored about her gown.
"Melissa McCarthy, 45, looks beyond amazing, but she opted for a metallic hue that swallowed her up. Not only was the color not right for her, but the silhouette didn't do anything to show off her weight loss - we were totally expecting way more from her," said Hollywood Life.
