The Hollywood live-adaptation of the classic anime "Ghost in the Shell" is indeed coming to the big screen! As it was recently been confirmed that the project will finally start its production later this month.
Along with that, key role for the long-awaited live adaptation of "Ghost in the Shell" has moreover been cast. Joining the set is no other than the 34-year-old actor, Michael Carmen Pitt.
Excited to know what role will Michael Pitt set to slay with? The Hollywood Reporter reveal that the HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" gangster has been tapped to assume the villain role in "Ghost in the Shell" live-adaptation film.
Apparently, Michael Pitt will play a character known as the Laughing Man in its manga counterpart.
"The antagonist is a bitter and vengeful man with a body that is part robot. He has a unique sense of style and has been described as a bad guy filtered through the lens of a street artist," the report described.
The actor will join "Ghost in the Shell" cast members - star Scarlett Johansson, who is set to play the protagonist role known as Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Danish actor Pilou Asbæk, who will play as Batou, a second best skirmish contender in Section 9 and second in command behind Major Kusanagi.
For those who are unfamiliar, the story happens in a not-so-distant future Japan and takes after the exploits of Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyber terrorist organization led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, an augmented-cybernetic human (otherwise known as a cyborg) as they manage the unsafe crooks, "Ghost in the Shell" Wikia noted.
Game Spot, in its report, noted that the long-awaited "Ghost in the Shell" will finally begin shooting in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai, China this month.
Directed by Rupert Sanders and produced by DreamWorks, the film aims to launch the sci-fi live-adaptation movie based on the Japanese manga of the same title, "Ghost in the Shell", on March 31, 2017. Still a long way to go, right?
