Boxer Gennady Golovkin still has to find his new opponent after his supposed bout with Billy Joe Saunders did not push through.
According to skysports.com, the WBA Super, IBF and WBC interim world middleweight champion was aiming to have a super fight with Saunders this year.
As per worldboxingnews.com, Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler spoke about finding a new match. "As we always said, unfortunately, we cannot force other champions to fight Gennady Golovkin," Loeffler said.
"Billy Joe Saunders just had a big win to claim his title, so hopefully, he will fight GGG in the future," he added.
"As for the future of Golovkin, we are still going through opponents to see what is the best option for his next fight," he concluded.
In a report by uproxx.com, GGG has said that his goal was the Middleweight title. "It's a very important fight for me, because my goal is all about the middleweight division and unifying the belt," the boxer said.
"And having big, exciting fights for my people, my fans, and my team. The more I win, the bigger the fights. When you are the champion, people have to fight you. And I want to fight a lot."
The boxer kept humble when asked if he thought was now the world's best pound for pound fighter. "I think it's too much for me, I don't feel like I'm there yet. I like sports, I like boxing," he humbly replied.
"I respect my opponents. I respect my team. I dunno, this talk is too much for me. Pound-for-pound? Maybe in the future. But for now, this fight with Lemieux is my first step for history, for uniting the middleweight belts. I don't feel I have a right to say I'm best in the world. It's just not true to me."
Golovkin beat Lemieux last October 17, 2015 and since then experts believe that a Golovkin and Saunders fight will still happen.
