It looks like Kendrick Lamar fans will have to wait a little longer for his upcoming joint album with J. Cole. Their album's release is reportedly postponed because of J. Cole's summer tour with Canadian rapper Drake.
With 11 Grammy nominations for his sophomore studio album To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar is under a lot of pressure to impress listeners with whatever he releases next.
In an interview with XXL Magazine, Lamar shared "I know I'm chosen. I know I'm a favorite. I know in my heart there's a whole other energy and leadership side of me that I have probably run from my whole life. How much power do I want? How much can I handle? That's the question I keep asking myself."
According to About.com, Kendrick and Drake have had a feud for years. At the BET Awards Cypher back in 2013, Kendrick "King Kunta" Lamar dropped a line referencing Drake's Nothing Was The Same album title: "Nothing's been the same since they dropped 'Control' / And they tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes."
Obama recently chose Kendrick over Drake in an interview hosted by YouTube just last month. Vlogger Adande Thorne asked, "If Drake and Kendrick Lamar got in a rap battle, who do you think would win?" The president of the United States quickly answered, "Gotta go with Kendrick." He explained his pick further, "I'm just saying. I think Drake is an outstanding entertainer, but Kendrick, his lyrics - his last album was outstanding. Best album, I think, last year."
It seems as if J. Cole disagrees with POTUS as Complex.com reports that according to Ebro Darden, a media executive who works at both Hot 97 and Apple Music, Drake is "planning a tour with J. Cole that could be revealed as early as this week."
