Beloved space opera franchise "Battlestar Galactica," will reportedly have a reboot and the movie, is said to be produced by "The Social Network's" Michael De Luca; a release date has not been scheduled, according to io9.

He will team up with Bluegrass Films, which is known for "Ted" and "Battleship," to be able to "mold the brand into a franchise starter at Universal Pictures."

Over the past 15 years, "Battlestar Galactica" has had quite an unfortunate journey. A television show was almost made by Bryan Singer in 2001, but the attacks on Sep. 9, 2011 had an effect on executives because the story begins with a terrorist attack.

Singer later tried to make a movie that would blend the 1970s original and SyFy's version.

SyFy's reboot made huge waves, but fell flat on attempts to follow it up, which included TV movie prequels like "Caprica" and "Blood and Chrome."

Powerhouse producer De Luca will team up will also team up with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark, both from Bluegrass Films as well. Together, they will produce "Battlestar Galactica" for Universal Pictures, which will reportedly launch a massive event franchise but has currently no scheduled release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Battlestar" was a short-lived television series that aired on ABC from 1978 to 1979 and was created by Glen A. Larson. The show is about a concerned human civilization, almost wiped out by machines known as Cylons. Survivors flee on starships led by Galactica and her crew and they try to find a human colony called Earth.

No writers are on board just yet, at this early stage of the reboot project. De Luca is also one of the producers of Universal's "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Dracula Untold."

There are no new details with regard to the movie's creative direction, but De Luca has described himself as a "huge 'Battlestar Galactica' fanatic," reported Cinema Blend.
