Denver Broncos' Peyton Manning may retire after his performance at Super Bowl 50.
USA Today reported that Manning has become "the oldest and luckiest man to quarterback a team to a Super Bowl victory. The publication noted that the QB has really no other choice but to retire.
There is a buzz over Manning's performance at Super Bowl 50 and USA Today commented that he did not play well. It was reported that he has little to do with the Denver Broncos' 24-10 victory over Carolina - and he knows it.
"I was just glad I was on the same team as our defense and didn't have to play against them," Manning said.
His Super Bowl stat sheet was not impressive: 13 completions in 23 attempts for just 141 passing yards. One interception and no touchdown passes. Eight punts.
When asked about his retirement, Peyton Manning neither confirmed nor denied it. He admitted, though, that he will be thinking about it and not make "an emotional decision."
Over the days, Manning has been called a lot of names. Fox Sports described him as the Donald Trump of the NFL, while The Daily Beast noted that he is a "far bigger prick than Cam Newton."
Professional football player Raymond McNeil also took to Instagram to share a meme showing the quarterback with the text, "When you do nothing in the group project but get an A*."
"This man did absolutely nothing yesterday but is getting praised," McNeil captioned the photo. "Lol [their] defense scored more touchdowns than he threw."
Aside from his poor performance at Super Bowl 50, Manning was also criticized for "trying too hard to cash in before the spotlight went out" according to Huffington Post.
"Peyton cheapened his image and insulted the audience's intelligence," the publication noted.
"Will his legacy be Peyton Manning, Super Bowl winner, or Peyton Branding, who blatantly cashed in before leaving the sport? Peyton won Super Bowl 50 but lost something more precious - his dignity."
