Rumors of a "Game of Thrones" prequel have been heard since 2015 and discussions of the hit television series' end have been making its rounds as well. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said he hopes to postpone the show's eventuality for as long as he can, revealed Variety.
"'Seven seasons and out' has never been the conversation," Lombardo told reporters during HBO's presentation at the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour in 2015. "The question is, how much beyond the seventh season are we going to do?"
Lombardo also mentioned that he would like the show to run for a decade and was asked about a prequel.
"I would be open to anything David and Dan want to do; there's enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel," added Lombardo.
"GOT" author George RR Martin has also dropped hints, on the future of the popular HBO drama and his comments seemed to be confirming rumors.
The author mentioned, that HBO is planning a big screen adaptation of the series, once its run on television ends. Martin added that he will not be involved in the film and the show writers, DB Weiss and David Benioff will likely shape the movie, reported the International Business Times UK.
"There will be a movie but I will not be involved," he stated at a HBO afterparty post the Emmys 2015, where the show bagged several Emmys.
In the meantime, fans are just waiting for confirmation and an official announcement, with regard to a "Game of Thrones" prequel.
The "GOT" HBO television series' sixth season is fast approaching and is slated to premiere in April 2016.
